Duraplex is not ordinary PMMA. HUGE positions it as a nano-reinforced evolution of conventional acrylic, built for restorations that have to survive in the mouth for a long time rather than a fortnight — long-term provisionals, All-on-X conversion prostheses, and permanent structures for removable dentures. The brightest shade in the line. Bleach-value cases and high-value full-arch work where the patient has asked for maximum brightness.
The Five Questions Labs Actually Ask
1. Hardness? 26 HV0.2 — against 15 for regular PMMA on HUGE’s own comparison. That is the number behind the wear resistance.
2. Flexural strength? 140 MPa, with a modulus of elasticity of 2,400 MPa. Both figures are from HUGE’s published parameter table.
3. How many layers? It is a multilayer disc, shade-graded from cervical to incisal so the transition reads like a natural tooth rather than a printed band. HUGE does not publish a layer count, and we are not going to invent one — if the exact count matters to your case, call us on 954-874-6325 and we will get it from the manufacturer in writing.
4. Which colours? BL1, B1, A1, A2 and A3, all at 98.5 × 20 mm, all stocked here. This disc is shade BL1.
5. Wet or dry milling? HUGE publishes no wet-or-dry restriction on Duraplex. As a material class, Cad/Cam PMMA mills both ways — dry is what most lab units run and is the usual default; wet gives a finer surface and controls dust, at the cost of drying and chamber cleaning. On dry, run a slower RPM protocol. Treat that as general PMMA practice, not a HUGE instruction — follow your milling unit’s PMMA profile, and call us if you want us to confirm parameters with HUGE for your specific machine.

Lower wear loss and higher hardness are the same story told twice: the restoration keeps its occlusal anatomy and its polish for longer. On a conversion prosthesis a patient may wear for twelve months or more, that is the difference between a case you review and a case you remake.
Why This Matters For All-on-X
This is the part most PMMA specs do not tell you. Duraplex is built to the True Color System, which means it shade-matches HUGE’s MM4D zirconia. Measured as colour difference (ΔE) against that zirconia:

What that buys you: the provisional the patient approves and the final zirconia they receive are the same colour. Regular PMMA sits at ΔE 5.3 to 7.5 against the zirconia — a shift the patient sees and asks about at delivery. Duraplex sits at 1.6 to 1.9. You stop having the conversation that starts with “the temporary looked different.”
