WHIP MIX Pro 200 Series Insulated Thermocouple

Description

The WHIP MIX insulated Thermocouple #96312 is the OEM temperature sensor for the Pro 200 Series porcelain furnaces — the Pro 200 and the Pro Press 200. WHIP MIX specifies an upgraded Thermocouple on this generation for improved accuracy, and it is the component the controller reads on every firing, pressing and calibration cycle. Everything downstream — shade match, glaze, Press completeness, crystallisation of lithium disilicate — is only as honest as this sensor.

The Pro 200 muffle is rated to 2200°F with quartz-tubing windings, so the sensor works in a genuinely punishing environment. This part is the insulated version specified for the Pro 200 generation. It is not interchangeable with the Pro 100 Thermocouple (#96184), which is a different assembly on an earlier control platform.

Unlike the retired Pro 100, the Pro 200 Series remains a current, supported WHIP MIX platform — so a Thermocouple swap is a routine service item, not a scavenger hunt. Keeping one on the shelf turns a dead furnace from a multi-day production stop into an afternoon.

When a Thermocouple Needs Replacing

Per the WHIP MIX Pro 200 Series Furnace Operator’s Manual, a Thermocouple Error is raised when the furnace detects an open Thermocouple for 25 seconds; the furnace automatically shuts off the heating elements. Power the unit off and back on to clear it — if the error returns, the Thermocouple should be replaced.

Other signals worth a sensor check before you blame the ceramic:

• Shade drift across a whole day’s firings at settings that used to be reliable
• Calibration that will not hold between ProCal checks, or repeated calibration failures
• A muffle-test temperature reading that looks implausible against room temperature
• Under-fired results, poor glaze, or incomplete presses with no other cause
• A Max Temp Error alongside erratic temperature behaviour
