The AD2 laser EZ Bow captures a facebow record with a snap-on index tray instead of an earbow. It works on the same principle as the Kois DFA, but uses a laser rather than a midline rod to find the facial midline.
AD2 is the brand of Advanced Dental Designs, Inc., a US manufacturer of Articulators, facebows and mounting hardware. Its products are built to be cross-compatible with the major articulator Systems already in your lab — Panadent, Whip Mix, Denar, Hanau, SAM, KaVo, Artex, Stratos and Bio-Art — which is what lets a lab cut hardware cost without changing the way it works.
How It Works
- Centre the Bow on the patient’s facial midline using the laser
- Insert the Bow and index tray, raise into the maxillary arch, capture the bite
- Transfer the index tray to the articulator on the matching adjustable platform
- The platform sets the incisal edge 100 mm from the centre of the hinge axis
On whether a fox-plane Bow is good enough: every facebow provides an average value. A 2015 Marquette University prosthodontics study compared an earbow against a fox-plane Bow of the EZ Bow / Kois DFA type and found no difference in the results produced by either. That is a third-party finding, not our claim — and it is the reason a laser fox-plane Bow is a defensible choice, not a compromise.
Kois index trays from Panadent are interchangeable with AD2 index trays, so an EZ Bow drops into a Kois workflow without changing your tray stock.

One condition worth knowing before you need it: AD2 requires the equipment to be returned in its entirety to be considered for repair — so keep the complete instrument together, not just the failed part.
Normal wear on consumable Accessories used with this instrument — plates, trays, magnets — is not covered by the instrument warranty.
